What’s new for BricsCAD® Pro V21

On 27th October 2020, at the Bricsys® Digital Summit, Bricsys® launched BricsCAD® V21, available at different 5 license levels: BricsCAD® LiteBricsCAD® ProBricsCAD® MechanicalBricsCAD® BIM and BricsCAD® Ultimate. Over the coming weeks the Bricsys Blog will explore all the new features. In this post, let's take a look at what is new for BricsCAD® Pro V21.

We at Bricsys® want BricsCAD® to be your geometry engine of choice. BricsCAD® Pro V21, adds more than just new modeling features. Portions of our modeling core have been refactored, to better utilize multi-threading, wherever possible. These are the types of improvements that you should expect from your CAD software vendor! -- Mark Van Den Bergh -- COO Bricsys®

This year all the functionality of BricsCAD® Platinum has been brought to BricsCAD Pro®, plus we've added loads of new features. Keep reading to find discover the improvements for BricsCAD® Pro V21.

TL;DR

Improvements for BricsCAD® Pro V21 include, but are not limited to...
New Library Panel, 200+ new parametric standard piping parts, 3D geometry-driven constraints, improved import of SketchUp® files, asymmetric fillets and chamfers, preserved connections during rotations, move or rotate vertices with full control, Optimize, SmartInsert, and more!

Meshes

What’s new for BricsCAD® Pro V21- Improved-displaying-of-mesh-geometry

Mesh editing has been improved for BricsCAD® V21 and so has SketchUp® import.

As you'll know, at Bricsys® we love solids, but that doesn't mean the humble mesh gets left out! This year Bricsys® has made huge improvements to the way BricsCAD® handles meshes.

Mesh Properties

There are now more mesh options in the properties panel. Including properties of mesh sub-entities such as faces, edges and vertices.

Improved displaying of mesh geometry

The improved display of mesh, not only looks good, it also makes dimensioning and editing way easier.

Convert Mesh to Solid

You can now convert meshes directly to solids using the new CONVTOSOLID  command.

SketchUp® Import Improvements

In addition, SketchUp® files imports have been greatly improved. Importing Sketchup® files is faster and more accurate. For BricsCAD V21, Sketchup® entities are imported as named blocks and render materials and textures now, also imported.

Fillet & Chamfer

Fillets with variable radii

In BricsCAD® V21 you can now create variable-radius fillets. This means you can set different values of the radii at both ends of a filleted edge, or as a sequence of tangent edges.

Create asymmetric, constant chamfers

Create asymmetrical fillet and chamfers in BricsCAD® V21

You can also create asymmetric, constant chamfers along selected edges, using two, different distances.

Fillet editing

Fillet editing has just got easier with improvements to the radius editing. Editing is now done with a tool that looks like the Manipulator for improved usability.

3D geometry-driven constraints

Turn any parameter of a 3D model into a geometry-driven constraint. Use the newly enhanced PARAMETRIZE  command to automatically detect parametric elements. Convert any parameter you want into geometry-driven constraints, whilst maintaining the relationship with the other parts of your model.

Geometry-driven parameters can, not only be used on newly created models, but also on existing kinematic models, created with previous versions of BricsCAD®.

Manipulator enhancements

Do even more with the Manipulator, in BricsCAD® V21. Check out the HotKeyAssistant for hints and use the Ctrl key to cycle through options.

What’s new for BricsCAD® Pro V21- Preserve-connections-during-rotations2

Preserve connections during rotations

You now have the option to preserve connections during a rotation. This means that all adjacent entities will be extended automatically, drastically improving your 3D modeling speed and saving you oodles of time.

Move or rotate vertices with full control

For BricsCAD® V21 you can also move or rotate vertices with full control. You now have the choice to move vertices, with or without triangulation.

Piping

What’s new for BricsCAD® Pro V21- New-Standard-Parts-for-piping

The new Parts Library full of hundreds of pipe assembly parts.

New Standard Parts for piping

BricsCAD® V21 offers more than 200 new parametric standard piping parts: pipes, elbows, reducers, tees, crosses, flanges, gaskets, of ASME, DIN and ISO standards. The Parts Library has also been optimized.

Piping in Assembly Design

The Smrat Insert and Connect Standard Parts tools allow you to streamline a bottom-up design workflow: piping parts are automatically connected and resized to form parametric pipe systems with assembly constraints and common parameters.

Break down drawing views

What’s new for BricsCAD® Pro V21- Break-down-drawing-views

Break down long objects with the new break command.

Break down drawing views of long parts and assemblies into shortened views using the new VIEWBREAK command.

But that's not all that's new for BricsCAD® Pro V21!

There are also some great new Point Cloud and Civil Design features! To see everything that's new for BricsCAD® Pro V21, be sure to check the release notes and come back to the blog, as we will be exploring more features!

Polyline Editing in BricsCAD

Polylines offer an array of functionalities for 3D modeling. Polylines consist of connected line or arc segments that act as a single entity. Each segment can have a constant or varied width, making polylines versatile for creating 3D models.

In this tutorial, we'll explore the various methods you can use to edit a polyline in BricsCAD.
