Belgian Ambassador to Japan meets with Bricsys® to accelerate digital transformation in manufacturing and construction

Bricsys® recently had the pleasure of meeting with the Belgian Ambassador to Japan to discuss the current state of the Japanese manufacturing and AEC (Architectural Engineering and Construction) industries. They focused on technological solutions to address the growing needs of these sectors.
Together, they examined the current industry challenges in Japan—including stagnant sales, labor shortages, slow automation, and decreasing productivity—and opportunities to work on these areas with continued collaboration between Japan and Belgium.
“About 80 Belgian companies are represented in Japan, and Bricsys is one of them. I am proud as an Ambassador to witness the success of their technologies in Japan,” H.E. Mr. Antoine Evrard noted.
Around 300 Japanese companies have invested in Belgium, and Belgium is Japan’s fifth leading trading partner in the EU.
In addition to their meeting, Bricsys and the Ambassador hosted 35 companies to explore how advanced software platforms, like BricsCAD®, can foster digital transformation in construction and manufacturing and pave the way for future innovation.
Japanese industries’ current challenges
Over the past 25 years, sales in Japan’s manufacturing industry have remained solid yet stagnant, at around 400 trillion yen. The primary reasons behind this include labor shortages, slow automation, aging equipment, and rising labor costs.
Meanwhile, construction industry investments grew this year, mainly thanks to public works from the Japanese government and increased private, non-residential construction. Yet obstacles like the rising cost of materials and an aging workforce are still prominent.
As Bricsys and the Ambassador agreed, companies that embrace digital transformation to address these issues are coming out on top. Industry leaders in manufacturing and AEC are migrating from legacy software systems to more agile solutions that allow them to streamline operations, minimize costs and maximize productivity. Both industries are looking for reliable, cost-effective products with intelligent tools to drive their digital transformations.
