Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny

Sometimes we want to do something practical with CAD, other times it's nice to kick back and relax with a fun project. So, in honor of Easter weekend, let's take a look at how to work with complex, curved and solids in BricsCAD to draw a 3D Easter bunny.

How to make an Easter Bunny in BricsCAD:

  1. To begin, You can either freehand your bunny or trace an image.
    To import an image:

      • Drag and Drop your tracing image

    Or

  2. Draw or trace the outline shape of your bunny with a Spline or Polyline.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- outlines-1024x578 Note: to create solids ensure that your Splines and Polylines are closed. You can convert a spline into a polyline with the PEdit command.

  3. Add contour lines.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- contor lines

  4. Create some ellipses. (you'll be needing them later)Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- elipses

  5. Use the Manipulator and Mirror to put everything into position.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- manipulate
    Note: This step gives a smoother finish to the final model. If you Loft one side and the mirror it, a "sharp" seam may be visible.

  6. Use the Align command to position the ellipses along the leg contours.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- align

  7. Now Loft between the Splines or Polylines to create your body parts.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- loft Note: For greater control, use a guide curve.

  8. Use DmDeformPoint to round off the flat face.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- dmdeformpoint

  9. Repeat steps 7-8 for all body parts.
    For the ears use DmDeformPoint to create one concave and one convex surface.

  10. To round off the tops of the legs:

    1. Isolate the last ellipse from the loft.
    2. TrimUse Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- half elpse
    3. Join
    4. RevolveUse Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- rotate
    5. Repeat as required
  11. Don't forget the tail! Use a Sphere.

  12. Move the eye outline along the Zaxis, away from the centerline of the bunny head.

  13. Extrude the eye outline until it overlaps the bunny head. This is you cutting object.
    Hit Ctrl to extrude in the "Create" mode.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- extract eye

  14. Use the Manipulator to tilt the face to match the contour of the bunny head.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- manipulate eye 2

  15. Mirror the cutting object, legs and ear.

  16. Subtract the extruded eye solids from the head.

  17. Fillet the edges.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- fillet

  18. Add the eyeball. Use A Sphere.

  19. Mirror it.

  20. Extrude a surface from the nose outline.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- nose

  21. Scale it so it overlaps the edges of the bunny head.

  22. Use Slice. Set the surface as a cutting object.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- lice

  23. Add Materials.Use Complex, Curved Solids to Draw a 3D, Easter Bunny- materials

  24. And that's all folks!
