What is BIM?

A 3D Model is worth a thousand words, but BIM tells you the whole story

Construction documents

Traditional building design is centered around the creation of 2D technical drawings, generally called construction documents (CDs). In this traditional workflow, these drawings become the sole end product of the entire design process. This is sad.

Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an architectural design, construction and building management workflow that is based on a rich digital model. This model represents all of the physical and functional characteristics of a building.

In BIM, the creation of accurate, consistent construction documentation becomes a by-product of the workflow. Change the building design, and the CDs update to reflect those changes. BIM also extends the traditional design paradigm by allowing multiple disciplines to access, create and edit a building model from different locations, simultaneously.
