Morrisroe Limited is a leading player in the high-end UK construction market, recognized for their ability to manage projects of significant complexity and scale. As an engineer-led, multi-disciplinary contractor, Morrisroe offers a comprehensive range of services including demolition, piling, structures, joinery, and carpentry. Their portfolio features flagship projects such as the London Aquatic Centre, Tottenham Hotspur Football Stadium, 40 Leadenhall, and Elephant and Castle Town Centre.
The Challenge
In their current project at 2 Finsbury Avenue, Morrisroe was tasked with constructing a 167-meter-high RC structure using slip form technology, alongside a three-story, top-down basement. The project is targeting net-zero carbon in its construction and will create 750,000 square feet of new office space, complemented by green areas, leisure facilities, and a variety of spaces accessible to the public.
The complexity of overlaying various design consultants’ drawings and ensuring seamless integration required innovative solutions to avoid stoppages and maintain progress.
The Solution
BricsCAD Powering the Project
To accelerate their 2D drafting workflows, Morrisroe has adopted BricsCAD as their primary CAD platform. James Wibberley, Engineering Lead at Morrisroe, outlined the project at 2 Finsbury Avenue:
“We have to do a lot of work with overlaying different design consultants’ drawings, our slip form fabrication drawings, using clash detection to ensure that everything works together. All of that was managed using the BricsCAD tools in terms of doing all the design, collaboration, and coordination to remove those clashes.”
From the suite of products, Morrisroe uses BricsCAD Pro® to streamline their construction process. They opted for this solution given the seamless integration of BricsCAD Pro with Leica total stations, providing precise movement and tolerance measurements and aligning the build with structural specifications.
"We use BricsCAD because it’s a really efficient tool. The team has been using it for a long time now, and it gives us really good visibility into the data of what we’re building out onsite," explained Wibberley.
Benefits of BricsCAD’s AI-Driven Tools
The Morrisroe engineering team has integrated BricsCAD’s AI-driven tools into their daily workflows, especially to cut down repetitive and time-intensive tasks:
Blockify
Extensively used for identifying and converting repetitive geometry into blocks — a major time-saver when preparing as-built or reinforcement drawings.
CopyGuided
Helps maintain alignment and context when replicating standard details or components across drawings.
Optimize
Useful for cleaning up imported DWGs and refining geometry to precise tolerances.
BIM Propagate
Used to apply reinforcement and detail patterns across similar structural elements, reducing manual drafting and improving consistency across RC elements.
Staying Ahead with BricsCAD Maintenance
In addition, the Morrisroe team chose BricsCAD Maintenance® to get the most of their licenses with technical support, stay up-to-date with the latest product releases, and future-proof their solution.
"The support team has been responsive and knowledgeable, helping troubleshoot complex drawing issues and optimize custom configurations," noted Wibberley. "Also, they supported us with completing company-specific standard videos for our engineering team to refer to as a library."
Their Maintenance coverage also gives the Morrisroe team the latest tools and enhancements in each new BricsCAD release, important as they adopt more digital construction workflows and align with ISO standards.
“BricsCAD Maintenance has been instrumental in keeping our engineering workflows current and supported. The Maintenance plan gives us confidence that our tools will evolve alongside the demands of modern construction engineering,” concluded Wibberley.
Results
Since transitioning to BricsCAD, Morrisroe has seen measurable improvements in productivity and efficiency within their engineering team:
10% increase in productivity
Engineering output has improved due to faster drawing creation, reduced rework, and smoother collaboration.
20% increase in time optimization
Less time needed for drawing setup and editing, freeing engineers to focus more on producing more surveys and quality checks.
Enhanced accuracy and consistency
Improved layer and block management tools in BricsCAD have helped reduce drawing inconsistencies.
Fast onboarding
New engineers adapt to BricsCAD quickly with specific company training created.
Overall, BricsCAD has proved to be a highly efficient tool for Morrisroe, providing excellent visibility into the data and facilitating daily operations.
“On a daily basis, I work with BricsCAD, mainly for transformation of drawing, extracting the coordinates, which I then transform into data on the site plan,” noted Sergers Kronbergs, Site Engineer at Morrisroe.
“So, I would take all the DXF files once the coordinates are cleared out, put them into my controller, and be able to set out on the job," said Kronbergs.
The Morrisroe team also noted BricsCAD’s speed and ease of use to quickly import and format information from total stations to BricsCAD, enhancing productivity and accuracy across the project lifecycle.
“BricsCAD makes it easier because it’s fast software you can overlay. You can download and import the information from GSI to DXF files very quickly, very smoothly, from the total station on to BricsCAD. Then you format as you draw, quickly,” observed James Read, Project Engineer.
